The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale is open in Dubai right now: everything you need to know before you go

If you have been meaning to restock your shelves, find something for the kids to read over the school break, or just want an easy family evening plan this Ramadan, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale opened in Dubai three days ago and runs until Sunday 8 March. It is the kind of event that sounds almost too good to be true until you actually walk in: over one million books, prices starting from AED 2, and free entry.

Here is what you need to know before heading down.

What it is

The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale is the world’s largest touring book sale, founded in Malaysia in 2009 and now held across more than 55 cities in 17 countries. The Dubai edition has been running since 2018 and has become, by most accounts, a fixture on the city’s cultural calendar. Demand has been strong enough that it now comes to Dubai twice a year, and has expanded to Sharjah and Ajman as well.

This year’s edition is held in partnership with the Sharjah Book Authority and the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, which puts it in good company as far as cultural credibility goes.

Where and when

Sound Stage, Dubai Studio City. Running daily until Sunday 8 March 2026. Doors open at 10am and stay open until 2am, giving you a 16-hour window each day. The extended late-night hours are well suited to Ramadan schedules, making it a natural post-iftar outing if you want to do something between iftar and suhoor without going far.

The prices

Books start from AED 2. Discounts across the collection run up to 95 percent off retail prices. To give you a sense of what that looks like in practice: the complete Harry Potter seven-book set is priced at AED 200, the BTS memoir Beyond the Story hardcover is AED 20, and Oliver Jeffers’ Begin Again is AED 10.

If you are a student or educator, bring your valid ID. You get an additional 5 percent off all English titles, with no minimum spend required.

What you will find inside

The collection spans fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, cookbooks, educational resources, and self-development guides. The layout is warehouse-style, with books grouped by genre across a large open floor. It rewards browsing. Give yourself more time than you think you need.

There are dedicated children’s areas with interactive workshops and creative activity zones, which makes it manageable as a family outing rather than something only adults can navigate. A food truck zone is also on-site, useful if you are making an evening of it.

Prize draws worth knowing about

Spend AED 200 in a single receipt and you get one entry into a lucky draw for a MacBook Air. Spend AED 250 and you get two entries, with two further entries for every additional AED 250 after that. Vouchers worth AED 1,000 are also being given away, with details on the official Big Bad Wolf Books Instagram page.

A few practical tips

Go on a weeknight if you can. Weekend evenings draw the largest crowds and while the venue is big, popular sections can get busy. Sunday through Wednesday evenings tend to be calmer.

Bring a bag or trolley. There is no shortage of things to buy and carrying an armful of books across a large floor gets tiring quickly.

The 10am opening is quieter than the evening sessions, which suits anyone who prefers to browse without the noise. That said, the post-iftar window from around 8pm onwards has its own energy and is a good time if you are going with family.

If you are buying for children, the kids’ section is well-stocked and the pricing makes it realistic to build a proper home library for very little.

Getting there

Sound Stage, Dubai Studio City is accessible from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Parking is available on site. There is no public transport directly to the venue, so a car or rideshare is the practical option.

The bottom line

Between the pricing, the scale, and the timing during Ramadan with 16-hour daily opening hours, this is one of the more straightforward value events in Dubai right now. Entry is free, there is no obligation to spend, and even walking out with ten or fifteen books for the household is unlikely to cost more than a single trip to a regular bookshop. It runs until Sunday 8 March, so you have this week to get there.
